Model Charlotte McKinney made sports headlines last winter when her Super Bowl commercial for Carl’s Jr. was “banned” from the game for being too racy.
Since then, the model that some have labeled “the next Kate Upton” has appeared on Dancing with the Stars, in the online release of Joe Dirt 2 with David Spade, as well as in a Funny or Die clip with Rob Gronkowski, where McKinney and the Patriots’ tight end did a spoof of the romantic novel “A Gronking to Remember.”
McKinney stopped by to pick this week’s slate of NFL games in the first edition of Celeb Pick’em for 2015. In tonight’s opener, McKinney thinks the defending Super Bowl champions will take down the Steelers.
How did the “Gronking” clip come about?
I had met with Funny or Die because I wanted to work with them. I love all their funny, little concepts … they finally sent me this script and I thought it was pretty funny, so we approved it and we did it.
Off-set with Gronk was pretty hilarious. He had all of his crew with him: His dad, his managers, his friends and they were all just like giving him crap all the time. He’s just a big, funny dude.
If you played football, what position would you play?
I guess I would definitely be a kicker. I have nice, long legs and I think that’d be a good spot for me.
So you went from high school to modeling, what’s the toughest challenge of going straight to the pros?
The toughest thing with that was like I never did prom, I didn’t really have girl friends, I was never in a sorority, I didn’t go to college. I missed a lot of that, which made me grow up a lot faster.
How should athletes “grow up” on social media to stay out of trouble?
Well, everyone’s always on me about social media because I don’t post enough. But I would just say quality over quantity. Good material, reaching out to your fan base. Avoid posting when you drink. That’s probably a good idea: Gronk, I’m talking to you.
How was it being on your side of a Super Bowl commercial?
I didn’t think it would be so big. It kind of just happened overnight. I didn’t even know it was going to be in the Super Bowl and when I found out that was just huge for me.
